Celtic Energy produces over one million tonnes per annum of high quality anthracite and bituminous coals from sites across South Wales, either sold direct from site or from the coal washery and distribution facility at Onllwyn Distribution Centre.
The main market is Aberthaw Power Station, with several trains being sent on a daily basis for the generation of electricity at a power station where flue gas desulphurisation FED has recently been installed and where a carbon capture pilot plant is intended.
Celtic Energy is the principal producer of anthracite in the UK, supplying a range of washed and graded products to the domestic market.
Anthracite coal for the domestic market is supplied in sizes ranging from grains through to beans, small and large nuts and in three qualities; Black Diamond, Group 1 and Welsh Brite.
Celtic Energy is the main producer of anthracite products for home heating and is the exclusive supplier of anthracite products for the concessionary coal sector.
The Company also supply a wide range of products to the industrial markets such as steel making, cement and brick manufacture, water filtration and glass manufacturing and briquetting markets where quality and consistency are essential.
Approximately 10% of the anthracite production is exported to the continent for home heating in Belgium and France and for industrial applications in Germany, France and Norway.
